The Zero Carbon Bill, formally known as the Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Bill, was read a first time in Parliament on 21 May 2019 and referred to the Environment Committee, to be reported by 21 October 2019. The Bill was supported in its first reading by all Political Parties except ACT. The bill proposes to place a set of greenhouse gas reduction targets into law and require that future governments continue these efforts into the future.
