ENM warmly welcomes teams and groups to step into nature, reconnect with the whenua, and make a real, visible difference in our community. Together, we can restore the health of our local waterways—one caring action at a time.
Human-made litter, especially plastic, continues to harm and weaken our streams and rivers. Hope is found in our collective efforts. Already, students, community members, companies, council staff, academics, and local Iwi have joined hands in this shared mission. Every person who shows up becomes part of a growing movement of kaitiaki committed to healing our awa.
To support this mahi, ENM provides guidance and practical tools for community-led clean-up events. Our detailed online guide empowers groups to self-manage stream clean-ups, and we offer access to the equipment needed to make these events safe and effective. This guide is built on years of research and hands-on action, shaped through collaboration between Palmerston North City Council, Zero Waste Aotearoa, Rangitāne, and Environment Network Manawatū.
ENM is deeply committed to advancing the aspirations of local Iwi to revive the mauri that has been lost along Palmerston North’s waterways. True transformation will only come through our shared responsibility and collective action. When we work together, we create meaningful, lasting change.

He waka eke noa — we are all in this together.

Let’s get you started
The Guide will walk you through the important steps to planning and holding a clean-up event. We provide all the gear you need so it's easy to take part.
Step 1: Choose a section to clean from the map below
We have divided Palmy’s main urban waterways into sections, able to be cleaned by a group of 10-20 people during a 2-3 hour event.
Step 2: Choose a date and Time
How often you would like to host an event is up to you. It could be a one-off, once a year, or your group might like to adopt a section and keep it clean on a regular basis.
Step 3: Read the guide so you know what you're signing up for
